I don't want to talk about how hard it is to be a single mother. I don't want to talk about all the issues within the black community that most attribute to single parent households lead by black women. Simply put, I don't want to talk about these things because I want to do something about them. I want to see more single moms get the support they need, so my most recent project has been putting together a resource guide for single moms in need of guidance and support. Beyond highlighting various housing programs, job training opportunities, and single parent support groups that I feel any mother could benefit from, I wanted to point out things that black women could benefit from like building better relationships with our black fathers, connecting with other black mothers, actively participating in cultural events with our kids, and taking time to de-stress and better ourselves.
My ebook, Seeking Support - A Guide for Single Black Mothers is largely comprised of information about programs, books, and websites that offer services to single mothers,teen moms, low-income families and African American parents. Some of the resources featured in this guide focus on issues like:
* Support for Teen Mothers and Pregnant Women
* Job Training and Work At Home Business Ideas for Moms
* Financial Advice and Debt Solutions for Single Mothers
* Tax Advice for Parents
* Raising Children as a Single Parent
* Freebies, Discounts, and Spending Tips for Single Moms
* Scholarships for Single Moms
* Low cost Child Care
* Single Moms and Dating
* Academic and Youth Programs for Minority Students
* Housing and Home Buying Help for Black Families
* Cultural Events for Black Families
* Social Groups for Single Black Moms
* And More.
If you would like to get a copy of this Guide, which is actually an eBook. You can download a copy at Mahogany Momma's eGuide Website.
I also would love it if you took this time to share information about websites or programs for single moms that you know of.

3 Response to Real Help for Single Black Mothers
as i read the opening page, it makes me sad to read that you dont want to hear the pains, of being a single black mother, or the challenges. myself feel truly blessed being a single black mother of four beautiful black children, but there are some trying times, and like this forum, the "issues" cant be expressed b/c no one wants to hear them... its sad that every other aspect of parenting has a open forum, whether good or bad has an outlet, black mothers never do. so tell me if i cant express my feelings openly and honestly how can i ever over come the "problems" associated with rearing children alone? dont get me wrong i love my children and will always be the strong mother that i was meant to be, but its ok to cry, shout, or be angry some time thats not all i am, i am so much more..but in my own community i find very little acknowlegement about the struggle, our children are dying at an alarming rate, i dare to compare it to those in IRAC. There is no forum for us, if we dare to cry, or slow down, show some kind of temporary weakness we find no support, no assistance, only bashing, about how weak we are. its sad. its ok to say its hard, but fair, its ok to feel lost and abandoned, its ok, as long as you continue to seek god and his guidance, its ok to want the roller coaster of life to slow down, even if it doesnt, its ok to show raw emotion, b/c the tragedy comes when all those emotions, fears etc are suppressed...they will come out eventually, but almost always negatively,
