I wanted to tell you all a little bit about this new Children's Books - Sir Nick of Tyme, which great African American Characters that both kids and parents can appreciate.

The story...
It was the Middle Ages and Nick, like every little boy in Tyme, wanted to be a knight. There was only one problem. He was the son of a baker and the life of a chef was expected of him. Still, even with his childhood behind him, he couldn't let go of the dream he had as a little boy.

In the biggest challenge of his life, one baker will prove that the greatest asset of a knight is found in his heart, not his sword. And he will do it just in the nick of time.

As the mother of a beautiful black baby boy, I often think about when my son becomes a man. How racism will affect him, how I will prepare him to be a strong Black man in a society designed to keep our boys from mentally developing as men. I worry about him. I worry about the day I might receive that call that no mother wants to hear.

These thoughts are important. We all think about them. That's why I would like to take a week or two out to devote to the topic of raising and nurturing our Black Boys, our sons so desperately needing our love, guidance, support, and attention. My first post on the topic is to introduce the book of a new friend, and fellow sista:

This mom talks about how black boys transition from being adored as children to feared as Black Men. She talks about her fears as a mother, moreover, as a white woman raising two black boys. This is an interesting read, not to mention all the great comments from many beingmamadaily blog readers.
